Shuuichi just wants his little brother to be happy. He isn't sure if Miyamoto Yumi is the right person to make that happen.

Being both at the same time while very inconveniently falling for an Organization operative who happened to be much too hot for her own good? It was enough to give her an aneurysm.
Well, at least she could safely say she was never bored these days.

She's the top student in her class every year, she's won multiple national chess championship titles, she gets the star role in every school musical, and she's the captain of her track and field team.
And if odd things seem to happen to her peers, her competition, and even her sister, well, it's all just an unfortunate coincidence. After all, Maki is a good girl. Competitive though she may be, she would never do anything to hurt anyone.
It's a shame for everyone, really, that only Azusa can see Maki for who she is.

“Do we? What about?” Akai stands before him, his face a blank mask. He makes no move to bring Kazami further into the house. His tone, in the face of Kazami’s harsh demand, is irritatingly innocent.
“About Furuya-san,” says Kazami. And, when that doesn’t prompt an acknowledgement, “He’s missing.”

Rei slams a fist onto his throne’s armrest, and Hiro winces a little. “What in the world is Akai Shuuichi doing here?!”
“Competing?”
“How?”
“I mean,” says Hiro, and flashes Rei another grin, “He applied?”
“What do you mean, he applied?!”
Rei may have spent years travelling with the hero’s party- both to defeat the lich Karasuma, and to bring Hiro back from the dead. But none of it matters, not one bit. When it comes to Akai Shuuichi, Rei still has no forgiveness in his heart.
So he’s not about to let the man swan in and win his hand in marriage.

Half of him wishes Akai hadn’t been so clear. Wishes that Rei could still read into Akai’s soft smiles, his light touches, the way he invites him out to dinner and lets him settle in his arms.
But Akai had. He gripped Rei tight by the shoulders, pushed him back, and told him in no uncertain terms- Furuya-kun, I’d like to be friends this time.
So Rei won’t humiliate himself any further by reading into things that just aren’t there.
Not again.
Things would be far, far easier if Rei didn’t still miserably have feelings for a man who’s clearly moved on.

Summary
The sweater does smell decidedly of Akai - cigarettes and a hint of his obnoxious aftershave. The warm scent of curry is new - though unsurprising, given his foray into cooking. Great. That's why they've been staring at him. Sera likely recognizes the sweater and Conan spends enough time with Akai to know the scent.
His gut instinct is to go change, right now, get rid of the damning piece of connection to the man he has too many conflicting emotions about. But a long-sleeved black turtleneck is hardly appropriate work attire for Poirot. Besides, if he changes now, the pair of detectives watching him will just have their suspicions confirmed.
So he grits his teeth, takes in a deep breath that smells too much like Akai, and gets back to work.
Rei steals a sweater.
Akai's not getting that one back, but maybe they can swap others.
And maybe, just maybe, it was never about the sweaters in the first place.Series
