Why he had to pick a line of work where dress shoes were an absolute necessity, he doesn’t know, but it's all the more reason to shed his work clothes as fast as he can and wash off the day’s grime in the shower.
The other reason lurks somewhere around this apartment, Wolfwood is sure. He’s seen Vash’s boots drying on the shoe tray in the hallway, snow and grit mostly brushed off. Curiously, his partner hasn’t said a word the second he stepped through the door.
After a long day of work and subpar winter road conditions, Wolfwood just wants to relax at home. Good thing Vash has the same idea.

Summary
On Wednesday, Vash realizes that Wolfwood is getting sick and promptly pretends that he hadn’t noticed.
It’s his food, is what gives it away. As a rule of thumb, Wolfwood likes spicy things, sour things, and flavors strong enough to clear Vash’s sinuses; so when Vash notices the smallish pot simmering on the stove Wednesday night, he’s careful to keep his tone just curious (not assessing: Wolfwood will know that Vash knows if Vash is assessing) when he asks, “Is that congee for me?”
Wolfwood visibly starts where he’d been zoning out next to the stove. There’s a crease between his eyebrows when he wheels to face Vash. “Y’said y’wanted bread,” Wolfwood tells him like that answers Vash’s question; in a way (in the way of the shared language of their relationship) it does. Vash had said he’d wanted bread; and the congee is very obviously not bread; so the contents of the pot merrily bubbling away on the stove aren’t for Vash.
Which means they’re for Wolfwood. And Wolfwood never wants plain congee unless he’s feeling bad.
Wolfwood gets sick, and Vash does what he can about it.

Razlo stiffens, fighting the urge to rip his hand away. Only reason he’s not shaking her off is because she’s holding on so tightly he might snap her little wrist. Don’t wanna deal with angry parents and bills Livio will insist on paying with the money he just earned. That, and it turns out when one does honest work, hurting clients doesn't bring more jobs.
(They won’t be welcome in Voldoor for a while.)

Summary
Vash has lived more lives than most, he knows.
He would feel restless in any other world, but here he finds himself content with waiting most of the time. It’s been about twenty or thirty odd years, he thinks— he has so much to tell him about, things about technology and new feats, about the small ways humans are finding ways to be impossibly kind as much as they are cruel. Thirty years is enough for rises and falls of events; humans are busy.
(When you last saw it, December was half as large. Did you know? There are ferns now, they’ve started planting things in the earth. I grew a carrot as large as my head last week.)
