Once, Mizuki was stuck in the same four walls of their room. The bed had melted their brain into pastel pink mush, and all they wanted to do was leave.
But leaving was pain: from scrutinizing eyes and toxic words, from the sickness of their body.
Mafuyu’s pain was her mother. And while Mizuki couldn’t stop that woman from existing, at least they could be her knight in sparkling pink armor, whisking the princess of the tower away to see sights she’s never seen before.
They know it’s only temporary.
Mizuki takes Mafuyu to the mall! Everything is alright, and they are definitely both really stable, functioning human beings.

She feels fingers prodding at her cheekbone, sliding beneath the thick layer over her eyes, and as it’s lifted from her, Mizuki automatically opens them—
A burst of pain engulfs her eyes. She only hears herself scream by the way it rips through her throat. Something wet oozes from the corner of her eyes.
She squeezes her eyes shut at the same time as the cover is yanked back over them.
Ena rests her back in her arms, Mizuki slumping limp against her. She can feel the way Ena shakes against her, shoulders heaving violently with her cries.
Or: After Mizuki runs away from her at the cultural festival, Ena finds her on the verge of oblivion.
