She sat beside Shuhua on the bed, and all of a sudden Shuhua felt like wanting to hide under the covers. Soojin turned to look at her, eyes and lips sorry-seeming.
“They’re terminating my contract, Shuhua-yah.” Then, somehow, still, she laughed, a disbelieving, wet and mournful laugh, a laugh that lacked any kind of happiness.
