Summary
Ghosts--the kind of ghost he is, at least--are immortal. Their soulmates tend to match that status, so it isn't possible to have "last words". To make up for it, whatever determines soulbonds decided to invert the normal rule.
Danny doesn't hate that he will know who his soulmate is immediately. He doesn't love the idea; it feels unfair to the people he loves and especially to his soulmate, who, presumably, hasn't died and revived and therefore still carries his last words to them. Or what were supposed to be his last words to them. Probably his last words to their mortal form, if he's honest with himself. His biggest gripe, though, is it feels... cheap. It feels like he won't get to choose them the way he wants.
Love shouldn't be an obligation, and he's worried it will feel like that when he meets them.

Summary
The man is old, or, well, older then Tim thinks he should be. He has crows feet around bright blue eyes that sparkle with mischief and care. His smile is a soft, sad thing as the stranger realizes that Tim is awake and shifts to look at him directly.
The man makes Tim feel safe and loved, so he reaches out an arm much heavier then it should be-used to be? Tim isn't sure-to take the other's hand in his own. "I know you," tim croaks, voice raspy and thin.
"You do, do you?" The man teases gently. His crows feet deepen even as the sadness in his eyes grows.
"I do," Tim says. He doesn't quite know the man's name yet, can't quite reach it, but he doesn't have to. "I call you Starling."
Starling's whole face softens and his shoulders sag downwards the smallest bit. "You do," he says.

Summary
It wasn't exactly a surprise to learn that Danny wasn't fully human. Tim had kind of suspected as much since that night (morning?) on the beach, but the confirmation was nice to have. It was also, coincidentally, nothing Tim had theorized so far.
For some reason, "half-ghost selkie" never quite made the list of possible species for his new best friend.

Summary
A child's first soul bond is, generally speaking, with their birth mother. Of the children that don't form this connection, most go on to form their first bond sometime in the first year of their life. It's a physiological need- most cases of babies dying from Failure to Thrive are children who don't get that first bond.
Of those that survive, three distinct groups emerge. Those that form their first bond between ages one and five usually end up relatively healthy despite finding it harder to form bonds at all and having a lower number of them then average over the course of their life. Those that don't have that need met within the first five years of their life make up the other two groups. Most of them are unable to form bonds at all. The small percentage left will only ever form unreciprocated bonds as easy as breathing.

“You want to be a real wolf, Pretender?” the hellhound spat, crowding Tim against the Tower wall yet again, “Then die like one.”

Or: Tim has been pretending to be a werewolf for years since Jason died. His disguise is meant to fool owls and fireflies, almost purely visual. When he meets a hellhound in the Tower the Red Titan pack claims as its pack den, this goes… poorly.

Summary
