    “You—” The microphone crackles. “You want to leave?”

    Nagi doesn’t speak, but his silence is answer enough. Ego’s eyebrow twitches.

    “You want to throw away your chance to play on Japan’s national team,” Ego says, slowly and deliberately, “forever?”

    Nagi thinks about it, then shrugs. “Sure.” He blinks. “Can I leave now?”

    Ego stares at him. Nagi stares back. Ego’s monitor goes dark, and his microphone clicks silent. Nagi doesn’t lift his gaze from the dark screen, not until Chigiri taps him on the shoulder.

    “Nagi…” Chigiri starts carefully, “Reo wouldn’t want this. He wouldn’t want you to do this for him.”

    Nagi blinks. “I’m not doing this for Reo,” he says simply. “I’m doing this for me.”

    If my roommate wanted to move out so badly, why wouldn’t he just tell me?

    I got kind of upset finding out, only because I thought the two of us discussed everything together. If he had a problem with me, he could at least try to talk to me about it before deciding to move out entirely, right? Even if it’s just so he can move out and buy a house for his girlfriend or whatever, I guess—couldn’t he at least talk to me about it instead of going behind my back?

    The next morning, I was still upset, and it was a rare weekend that my roommate didn’t go out. So I asked him about it, sort of, and kind of insinuated that if he wanted to leave so badly, he might as well do it sooner than later. I didn’t mean for it to be rude, but in retrospect, it might have been unfair, especially the part where I told him I’d help with packing up. But I think I have the right to be a little upset, at least, right? AITA?

    At this point, he’s already drenched to the bone anyways, the water sloshing in his shoes with each slowing step. His house is still a few streets away and the lamps are the only light he has to guide him there. And he should be going home, he has every reason to go home, but he finds that his feet stop moving of their own accord. He tries to breathe in the cool air of the rain, tries to feel the dampness against his cheek and think of it as refreshing. It doesn’t work.

    Because the only thing he’s actually thinking about is Langa and the way he didn’t follow.

    Reki walked away and Langa— Langa just let him go.
