    Summary

Hawke traded ribald jokes with pirate queens and dwarven storytellers in taverns, and then in a dark hall at night looked an escaped and hunted slave in the eyes straight-on and asked him to his bed, softly, as if afraid to be refused; as if Fenris might have some power in this, over him.

    Summary

/tolerance to a poison acquired by taking gradually increased doses of it/

The wizard's blood is toxic. Remarkable how repetition turns horrors mundane.

Or, to expound: The wizard of Waterdeep reeks of poison and weed, and Astarion can’t help himself on either count. Luckily, Gale considers any and all forms of experimentation, no matter how virulent, to be fruitful. Things escalate in every possible direction over a series of well-wasted camp nights.

    Summary

The sheep looks to his shepherd.

The shepherd's hands tremble in the dark.

Two eyes, dark and shiny as sea glass, bulge and blink as Gale brings the knife to the offering’s throat. The battle rages on and the babe bleeds upon Athena’s boots. Let it take, he prays, let her hear.

“My. What do we have here?" Gale hears a soldier’s voice in place of his Goddess. "Two little lambs left upon the altar?”

    Summary

“I am not eager to throw myself upon another altar for naught but scraps in return.” Gale steels himself with a deep breath. He speaks his peace to the wilds and the cosmos rather than his lover's face. “And yet. Marble skin, silver tongue... eyes like Moonsea rubies. Oh, you cast a fine altar, Astarion.”

With two discerning appetites, a deal to keep each other fed is the one thing that ties Astarion and Gale together. But the proverbial collar slips all too easily around Gale's throat, the lead feels right in Astarion's unchained hands, and both men think they've bested the other in a game neither should be playing.

In any case. As the greats say in lanceboard: there is no shame in losing to a stronger foe.

    Summary

Astarion heard Gale swallow thickly and then he could smell it. Lust. Sweet and fragrant. The wizard's gaze flicked down to his mouth.
All at once everything fell into place.
Of course he wouldn't take him to his bedroom and tell him to strip.
The wizard possessed something Cazador had never had: Manners.
He’d chosen a far more subtle approach that left Astarion the comforting illusion of free will. The trap hadn’t been as crude as food and shelter. No, Astarion had been accruing a far less obvious debt. The library card. The suddenly tuned piano. The bottles of bergamot and rosemary oil that had found a way into his bathroom. The glasses. The ring. A debt he had never agreed to, but still it had built.
Anyone could tell what the wizard wanted in payment.

Waterdeep will be many things for Astarion. A place to rest. A place to heal. A place to figure out what the fuck he wants to do with his life now.
It will also be a place of endless frustration with a wizard who refuses to collect on his debts and a stranger he can not keep himself from returning to.
Really, who came up with that anonymity spell anyway?
