Summary
“This is your last one.”
Elio has told her before he finally left her life. She’s a woman who holds nothing but a script in hand and a high bounty still pinned on her head. She possesses nothing else but these last few pages that perfectly summarize her ending.
Struck with grief and hate, Kafka receives her final direction and her feet leads her to one she calls home.

Summary
“It’s okay. Not like you could control it anyways, right?” Her heart squeezes at the gentle smile Himeko gives her.
“You were just a kid…”
That. That sentence hits her harder than Kafka would like to admit as a wave of forgotten memories crashes into her all at once. Of bright sunny days and summer heats spent at the playground or in the backyard playing tag and hide-and-seek, laughing and catching their breaths before a soft motherly voice would call them inside, quenching their thirst with freshly squeezed lemonade while a hand ran through their messy hair, laughing along with them.
She was just a kid…
“Yeah…” Kafka breathes out wistful and soft, raspy voice just barely above a whisper. She looks down for a moment, a small smile touching her lips.
“We both were.”
or: It used to be Kafka and Himeko against the world: young and happy and free. Until one day it was only Himeko and only Kafka, and the two that were once inseparable — have long since drifted apart.
Yet a funny twist of fate has them meeting all over again.

Summary
Kafka’s lips curl into a small grin. “Like what you see?” she whispers to Himeko.
Himeko turns as red as her hair at being caught staring. “No. Shut up, we’re supposed to be paying attention.”
“But darling,” Kafka drawls. “I wasn’t the one distracted.”
Himeko glares at her but doesn’t give her the satisfaction of a response. God, she hates her. She wants to wipe that infuriating smirk off her face.
— —
Kafka and Himeko are assigned partners for a project. Himeko hates Kafka, and Kafka, well.. she’s not exactly helping her case.

Summary
“The order was carried out before anyone could vouch for his innocence.” You said.
“Who carried out the order, your highness?”
There was a deep, overwhelming emotion in her eyes that you’d never seen. It made you feel ill to even meet her eyes. You couldn’t imagine the pain this brought her, the pain she’d live with for the rest of her life. At your side, your fingers twitched with the desire to point behind you.
“I don’t know.” You said, the words spilling from your mouth unchecked.
Behind you, you heard a sudden inhale. You hated that she’d choose now to show any sense of emotion. It stole any sense of satisfaction you had. You’d caught her off guard, but at what price?
