    A story in which Draco is pretty much a sociopath, Snape is verging on the Heathcliffian and Harry is, well, Harry. Stuck in a hideaway with his two least favourite Slytherins, Harry starts competing for something he didn’t even realise he wanted.

    Posted this years ago on a now defunct writing site. Edited it a little and thought I’d post here. Any mistakes are my own. It is a farce with some sex.

    “Pepper and I are—” Tony pauses for a fraction of a second while his brain runs rapidly through the ways he can finish that sentence. In the off again portion of our depressingly on again-off again relationship? Hopefully temporarily consciously uncoupled? On a break?

    “Pregnant?” asks Steve, perking up like a dog that’s just been offered a treat, and not just any dog, one of those wholesome happy ones like a golden retriever or whatever. Maybe the guy’s just looking for any bit of good news right now, given it’s been one nasty surprise after another the past few days. Tony kind of does want to offer him a treat, or pet him, or something. That’s really not a good enough reason for what Tony says next though.

    “Yeah, uh, yeah, we are.”

    When Weyrwoman Maenida comes to grief during Threadfall, the repercussions are disastrous. The Fighting Wings suffer crippling losses, and the Lower Caverns are left in turmoil. Weyrleader Sh'vek's options are limited...but that only makes it all the more essential for him to keep a tight hold on the reins of power.

    Rahnis of Ista, brought in to assist junior weyrwoman Delene, soon discovers that her new responsibilities will be even harder to manage than she imagined. Torn from her weyrmate, she struggles to find a workable solution that will make everything right...though it will, inevitably, exact a price.

    But for some people, it's not all bad news. He may have been given leadership of the worst Wing ever to grace the skies of Pern, but for bronzerider F'ren the situation offers only opportunity. Turning his Wing around well enough to make a difference for the better is only the beginning: F'ren has no intention of resting on his laurels, no matter how hard his Weyrleader tries to stymie him.

    Thread, however, cares little for human politics. All Thread does is kill.
