Rut wasn’t an inside thing. It wasn’t for houses—at least not ones you’d call home—and it definitely wasn’t for Houses, Great Houses in the Shining City, the city of progress and peace, safe from the storms that wracked the planet’s surface. Rut was for the Lower City, for the fissures, for rock-cut walls and taverns that smelled like liquor and piss. It was for outside, where smoke—fires, drugs, or industry—stung to the eyes and clung to the skin and masked and marked rut in equal parts.
Alex, recently sworn to Astra's House, is in rut, and old habits are hard to break.

Summary
The wars are finally over and both Liadrin and Valeera are struggling to find their place in the new world. Or, rather, Liadrin is struggling to find her place while Valeera tries desperately to avoid having one.
Unfortunately for Liadrin, all this sudden time with idle hands has reminded her of the emptiness she's struggled to come to terms with since the third war, because most un-bonded elves as old as Liadrin have long since accepted that the one meant to be their mate had likely been lost to them forever in the sacking of their home.
In Stormwind, Silvermoon and mates couldn't have been further from Valeera’s mind. At least until Anduin decides he desperately needs a go-between and has come to the realization that Valeera is, somehow, the least problematic elf he knows.

Summary
In a heated duel at the height of a losing battle, Jaina casts a last-ditch portal. It's meant to send the Warchief to the center of Alliance command, where she can be subdued and put on trial for her crimes. Unfortunately the portal sends them to another plane entirely—where Jaina, stranded in unfamiliar wilderness and crippled by the magical backlash, finds herself dependent on the assistance of an experienced ranger.
Mutual need allows them to hammer out a truce, but even that can't keep them from falling back into old habits; once through the shock, neither of them wants to rely on the other, and they're both quite willing to lie, double cross, or otherwise manipulate the other to achieve their own ends. The tentative ceasefire seems doomed to failure, until contact with the residents of this strange new planet makes it horrifyingly clear exactly what kind of civilization they have stumbled upon.
Suddenly, everything has become simpler—and infinitely more complicated.
