Why won’t Kaiser show him just a glimpse of what is behind all those layers—at least, let Alexis be in his third layer, so he can comfort him, so Alexis can embrace someone as lonely as him?
That kind of thought has been running in his head for days, weeks, months; and he wonders if it has always been there, just simmering under the euphoria of being by Kaiser’s side, the sense of accomplishment when Kaiser uses him for his goal.

“Will you marry me?” The man in front of him says, voice shaky and hands trembling. Tears trickle steadily from the noncerulean eyes, though he doesn’t really care to discern whether they’re from joy or misery.
Alexis Ness holds out his left hand. Tears are dripping down from his eyes too, but he refuses to allow any more sorrow to show. “Yes,” he whispers, letting that answer seal both of their fates.
Then, he lets the man who is not Michael Kaiser slide a ring onto his finger, and tries not to puke his guts out.

Throughout the whole night Yoichi had been so, so strong, but this time he couldn't hold back from facepalming. If mermaid tales, U.F.O. sightings and vampires were part of humanity’s greatest mysteries, then the thought process of Alexis Ness regarding all things Michael Kaiser followed close behind.
Trusting two highly dysfunctional adults to solve their own relationship problems was the first mistake and Yoichi, slightly drunk, involving himself in that dispute the second one.
