“Fine, fine.” Kat pries herself off of him and waves off her words. She lands back on the couch and sinks into the back cushions with her arms crossed, eyeing the basket with distaste.
“What if I took on half?” She suggests after a beat of silence. “Then we’re both happy.”
“Could do that,” he says, “if I didn’t hate the way you fold.”
“Excuse me?” Kat laughs incredulously.
"You fold things weird," he says, still focused on his task, as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.
"No, I don't."
"You do."
"Since when do you hate the way I fold clothes? And what's wrong with it?"

Nines was a busy man on most nights. Not impossible to get a hold of, but his time was divided among necessary tasks and those who needed his direct attention.
She turns onto her other side, unlocks the phone, and hovers over his number in her recents tab in her call list.
He was a busy man. But twenty minutes was practically nothing, wasn't it? And he knew that she hated the city and was generally miserable most of her waking hours here. She's also already complained about the state of the bed, and how the king suite had felt like a waste of money in hindsight given that she would have been more than satisfied with a double, being that she was the only one in it.
(And, if she were to really sit back and admit something honestly, she found it all unbearably lonely.)
