Summary
"I do not just have magic, Arthur. I do not just practise it."
Arthur looks up, his knees digging fervent and hard into the stone, bullets of pain crackling up his thighs. Merlin looks down - impossibly, immeasurably sad. Tears drip from his chin and splash on Arthur's cheeks, but he cannot ignore the way they run past a mouth curled in contempt, in hatred. Their gentleness has, like fruit on a hot day or flowers forgotten about, rotted. There is nothing left now but their battle of fury, their back and forth of violence. Arthur remembers, a long, long time ago, that Morgana told him love and hate were not all that different. Now, he thinks he finally understands.
"I was born with it. I am magic."

"It's... lonely." Merlin murmurs. "To be more powerful than any man you know, and have to live like a shadow. To be special, and have to pretend you're a fool. I know how it feels.
I understand."

Summary
"So, please," Merlin finishes, the visage of Glastonbury Tor swimming into quicksilver tears that threaten at the borders of his eyes. "If you can hear me, just know you're a massive sodding pillock and I miss you so much it hurts, and I can't keep going without you."
The lake says nothing back. It never does. Merlin puts his head in between his knees and cries for all the years they lost.

Summary
During the siege of Camelot due to Cornelius Sigan, Arthur discovers that Merlin is a sorcerer and he banishes him from Camelot.
Merlin, desperate, accepts Sigan's proposal to join him.
For two years, no one knows anything about the young servant until the Kingdom is once again under attack and Arthur has to face an old friend.An old love.

“Who are you?” he asked slowly. “From the way you speak it almost seems that we know each other”.
The figure exploded in laughter as loud as it was cold, devoid of fun. It made his skin crawl. Yet it kept something known to Arthur.
That laugh.
“I would say that it took you very little to forget me, Sire”
A hand slowly lowered the hood from its head revealing hair as black as night. The figure bowed regally before the Prince, slowly treading every gesture.
Arthur's bowels crumpled in terror of what was happening.
That irreverence.
The shadow passed a hand in front of his face letting the dark mask fade as if it were made of air showing that familiar face.
