Geralt had been silent for a while. When they first met, she repeated herself often, certain that he didn’t hear her, that her voice was too meek, too frail. She hadn’t truly known how keen a witcher’s senses were, how she could have whispered to him from outside the gates and he still would have heard her. Now she knows that his silences are moments of contemplation, and she lets him have them. Even if they do frustrate her.
“I didn’t think I would,” he had finally answered, not looking up as he patted Roach’s side. “Not until I met you. It was destiny that brought us together, Cirilla, but you have a power all your own. It is… I do. Care for you.”

So when he knocks on her door on Saturday morning, the week after her fourteenth birthday, Prim opens it with Katniss’s bow in her hand and the quiver of arrows slung over her shoulder. She’s hunched over awkwardly, unused to the weight. A shadow falls over Gale’s face.
“Please,” she says before he can say anything. “Will you show me?”

“Why are you interested in one of these arrangements?” he asks. Clarke blinks at him. This is the first question that actually feels like an interview question, but it’s one she’s never heard before. None of the others asked her. They probably didn’t care. Does Bellamy care? Or is this a test to make sure she’s serious?
To be honest, she hasn’t thought about the why. The money is the obvious answer, but there are dozens of other ways to make money. There’s a different pull for Clarke, one that makes her blush when she puts her finger on what it is. Despite all her cynicism while reading articles about being a sugar baby, one common argument tugs at something buried deep inside her.
She wants someone to take care of her for once.

He hadn’t known much about Clarke Griffin before taking the assignment. For what he’s getting paid, he doesn’t even think to look much into her. Figures he’ll just be trailing some overachieving teenager around a castle, hopes there’s someone halfway attractive employee on the grounds for an occasional fuck. Maybe once in a while he’ll have to throw a few punches or empty a clip into someone’s chest, but it’s nothing he’s not used to. Overall, he’s expecting this to be another run of the mill assignment.
He could not have been more wrong.

This is the part where he pushes her away. This is the part where he tells her that she has to move on, where if he’s cold enough to her she’ll eventually leave on her own, which will hurt more than anything else. This is the part where he makes her hate him with his sad attempt to undo the damage that loving her caused.
Instead, he lets her nuzzle under his chin, lets her press a soft kiss to his Adam’s apple and wind her arms around his waist. He lets himself enjoy the barely-there kisses she leaves up his jawline, lets himself shudder when she takes his earlobe between her teeth and gives it a teasing tug.
She pauses after that, and the room is still. Nothing exists except for her warm breath against his neck and the heat of his hand that has traveled to the small of her back.
She knows she’s won when he finally says it, the rough timbre of his voice lighting a flame low in her belly.

Predictably, the class seemed to be 90% freshmen, still shy and wide-eyed in their first semester. He mentally kicked himself again for not getting his stupid English Lit requirements over and done with freshman year like everyone else.
"Still don't understand why a fuckin' Engineering major needs English classes," he grumbled to himself.
A serious-looking kid in front of him turned around with a frown. "The ability to express oneself is important to all careers."
"You know what, blow me, Hemingway," Dean muttered, and the kid turned back around with a huff.

His housemate favours him with an amused smile. 'They're your family, Dean.'
'I know that! I just – god, Thanksgiving can fuck itself sideways with a Black Friday prices chainsaw.'
'I fail to see how the cost of an object thus misused would impact on the manner of its insertion,' Cas says, and even after six months of living together, Dean still can't figure out if that trademark mix of deadpan delivery and squinting is an epic-level trolling technique, or if Castiel really is that goddamn literal. Either way, he laughs despite himself, then gives a little moan and rests his head on the steering wheel. -
