And, Christ, Daniel’s had about as much as he can take of the color commentary. Before he can think better of it, he grunts a harsh, “Shut up.”
“Would you rather I lie to you, Daniel?” Armand asks sweetly, looking back at him over his shoulder. “I can do that if you’d like.”
Daniel isn’t stupid enough not to realize that’s a trap.
“So there is a floor, then.” His voice is still perfectly even as he plucks the thought from Daniel’s mind. “I was beginning to grow concerned.”

And Daniel might have allowed himself a moment of smugness at the efficient vampiric deduction skills of his younger self, if only the words hadn’t been delivered in such an alarmingly enraptured manner and if the kid wasn’t giving him a greedy once over at that very moment. Clamoring like a deranged octopus, he zeroes in on Daniel’s mouth, eager fingers pushing his lips apart, trying to get a glimpse of the goods.
“What the fuck?” Daniel garbles around the intrusion, “Get your goddamn fingers out of my mouth kid, I know where they’ve been.”
