    It’s a Saturday in mid-September. The morning is warm, unseasonably so for the time of year, and it continues on that way through lunch. She’ll remember that every time it replays in her mind, later.

    At times, it seemed like all they did was no more than a single raindrop of hope in an ocean of despair and chaos, but together all those raindrops had evidently helped.  Copley had captured it all, the last one hundred and fifty years of their lives condensed down into a few dozen photos and newspaper clippings.  It seemed so small, and yet, all encompassing at the same time.

    Kind of like how a declaration of love in a van during an abduction had condensed down all nine hundred and twenty years of an epic romance into a few hundred words.  It seemed an impossible feat, but then, his Yusuf was just the kind of guy to pull it off.

    Or, the stories behind the speech in the van.

    As soon as Aubrey Thyme, psychotherapist, had opened her office door and seen her new client, Anthony J. Crowley, sitting in her waiting area, she was observing and assessing him. At first glance, she paid attention to the following:

    --His clothing was expensive and stylish;
    --He wore very strange but noticeable cologne;
    --His relationship to the seat he occupied could only, very loosely, be described as “sitting;”
    --He looked angry;
    --He was wearing sunglasses.

    What Aubrey Thyme, a professional, thought, upon first seeing her new client was: you’re going to be a fun one, aren’t you?

    Through the spite of the spirits or plain rotten chance, a door that would have been better left untouched has opened. On the other hand, with Fire and Earth as one's allies, sometimes escaping is the easy part.

    [Excerpt from the speech of chief curator Virginia M. Mecklenburg at the opening banquet of the "Captain Steven Rogers: A History Through Art" Exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, January 5, 2012]

    “Welcome to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. It is my pleasure to introduce to you all an exhibit that has been many years in the making. So rarely are we presented with opportunities to join art and history in a union as perfect as this one. Though Captain Steven Rogers sacrificed his life for our country more than sixty years ago, his legacy lives on in history books, documentaries, independent films, and now, thanks to our generous donors, in galleries as well. His artwork provides us with a singular perspective of pre-war American society, as well as a unique window into the soul of the American hero himself...."

    Or, the life of Steve Rogers as told by biographers, art historians, tumblr users, a very enthusiastically queer college student, and the artwork of Steve Rogers himself. [Art included]
