Umino Iruka regarded the man standing before his shop counter with what was probably poorly-veiled irritation.
"Yes, thank you," he said. "I know how a triple-layered chakra lock works."
Long years of experience kept Iruka's tone even: losing his temper meant losing customers, even if there weren't very many people in Konoha who did what he did.

The canon-divergent au in which Iruka graduates the academy, does 3 D-rank missions, and then retires, because his leg was badly crushed in the kyuubi attack—so he re-trains as a locksmith and makes chakra-manipulated locks.
A story about systemic structural power imbalances between shinobi and civilians and the various ways in which expectations of physical strength and implicit ableism are detrimental to community trust. In which Iruka finds himself stuck between worlds, all because Sharingan Kakashi demanded the impossible, and Iruka made him a quadruple-layered chakra lock.

Iruka's apartment building is evacuated in the middle of the night one night...the one night he goes to bed wearing clothes he normally wouldn't be caught dead in public in! Just his luck that he ends up standing next to his crush, Kakashi, who arrives on scene to help out. Iruka is left mortified and embarrassed, and Kakashi is left with a new view of the other man, in a number of ways. What are they to do about all of this, if anything? Run in circles and fight their feelings? Sounds like a plan!

the life of a shinobi was a life filled with death and destruction. kakashi knew this better than most, his life was one trauma after another. these traumas haunted him, depression and anxiety making every day a struggle. somehow though, despite all of this, he had iruka—the chuunin was sunshine incarnate and brought kakashi so much happiness he wondered how he got so lucky to call iruka his.

Viktor’s eyes narrow.
“Excuse me?”
“You’d never let me,” Jayce says, louder. “Every time I’ve asked to help, you’ve turned me down.”
For a fragile moment, the only sound is the rasp of Viktor’s breathing. He stares at Jayce with palpable anger—that’s what it has to be, the intensity in his eyes—before he seems to catch himself. His breathing changes.
“Ask again,” Viktor says.

Viktor hesitates and almost regrets giving in to those puppy-dog eyes, but something shifts when his favorite song begins to play. And although he never imagined himself even moving his feet, he also never had someone as persistent as Jayce holding his hands.
