Summary
It’s Buck’s first thought—I lost Eddie. He thinks it before he realizes, before he’s aware enough to know that he’s having a first thought, which meant he wasn’t awake and is now.
He lost Eddie. One moment Eddie was there, and the next there was a car where Eddie had been, and Buck doesn’t know what happened then. He just thinks, I lost Eddie I lost Eddie I lost Eddie, over and over, and as it whirls through his mind he realizes a few other things—like the fact that he was also right by where the car hit Eddie, which means Buck also was probably hit by the car. And like the fact that his side hurts, and his leg.Or, a call goes badly and leads to Buck thinking that Eddie is hurt and possibly dead, and Eddie thinking that Buck is hurt and possibly dead, and everyone else thinks they're dumb.

Summary
Ghost dared lift his eyes to glance at Soap and found the man smiling at him, far too softly and fondly. It was the type of expression that made Ghost want to stab him.

Summary
The shack was so quiet. He could hear Ghost's teeth clacking together every now and then.
"Don't suppose you've got any Scotch in one of these pockets, aye?" Soap asked, if only to dispel the quiet.
Ghost lifted his eyes from Soap's hands to his face.
"Bourbon," he corrected quietly--none of the usual heat behind the word. "And no."Escaping from a mission gone wrong, Ghost takes a dip in a frozen river and gets himself hypothermia. Soap knows just how to fix it.

Summary
Just. What the fuck. This is Buck. The guy who cries at pictures of cute animals and baby videos. The guy who sings off-key to pop music while he does chores. The guy who tucks his shirt in while he's working out because it "helps him focus." He's - he's Buck. He's kind, and selfless to an alarming extent, and he's a good firefighter. Eddie's very fond of him. Eddie trusts him.
Eddie's not sure how that translates to being reduced to a speechless, red-faced mess when Buck reaches past him for something and winks at him.
or, Eddie is entirely stupid for Buck, in all his ridiculous, goofball glory.

Summary
He still gets stuck in it sometimes: the absolute silence after the shot, and time so, so still in that endless second when Eddie’s eyes met his. When the air turned cool against the skin of Buck’s face because there was something else, now, something warmer, sticky in his eyelashes, pooling at the corner of his mouth. Staining him in a way that will never, never come out, all in the time it took to remember how to breathe again.
It didn’t happen fast at all. There are days when Buck wakes up and thinks it might still be happening.
And Eddie is—Eddie won’t—Eddie—
or, six months after the near-fatal shooting of a member of the LAFD, footage of the incident surfaces on social media.

Summary
“Gay Michael’s coming over for dinner tonight,” Bobby says conversationally, sliding a bowl of olives over to Buck.
Buck catches the bowl, and then freezes, eyes widening. “Gay… Michael? Since when do you call Michael Gay Michael?”
Ah. Well.
“It just slipped out,” Bobby admits. “I don’t usually.”
Buck’s eyebrows furrow, something like quiet devastation falling onto his face. “Cap, are— are you homophobic?”
At this, Bobby startles. “What? No. Gay Michael is my best friend.”
Or: Bobby calls it as he sees it.

Summary
Eddie thinks, as he munches on a fry, that he’s angry. He’s angry that Buck was ever wronged, that Buck even felt he had to give him that look. He’s angry that he can’t just fix it, that he’s not good at fixing things but he’s really good at messing things up. He’s angry because he’s afraid of failing when Buck needs him.
He’s angry at Buck because he’s not here, and he’s angry because it’s easier than grief, because Eddie thinks this might be a type of grief. Because he misses Buck when he’s right there, because Eddie thinks this might be another thing like all the other things he needs to deal with, the things he pushes down so deep because just letting them sit around is enough to hurt.
