“Thanks for catching me,” he said. “Uh, what are you looking at?”
Lumine didn’t respond, still gazing above her. Ajax leaned his head up to see what had caught her eye.
“Oh.”
He’d suspected that his siblings had something to do with the bell and string, but was confused as to why. The mistletoe hanging right above them answered that question.
“Uh,” Lumine stammered.
“This is definitely the work of Tonia,” Ajax said nervously. “Just a dumb little game she and the little ones set up. We can just…pretend this never happened.”
For a while, neither of them said anything. Ajax just looked at the ground while Lumine twiddled her thumbs, both their faces reddened.
He didn’t often get frustrated with his family, but Ajax swore that the next time he saw his siblings, they were going to get an earful from him.
“I mean,” Lumine mumbled, breaking the silence, “it’s tradition right?”
“Huh?”
“To kiss under the mistletoe.” She spoke more clearly than before, but she still had a nervous shake in her voice. “I’m a visitor here. Wouldn’t it be…disrespectful? Not honoring that tradition?”

Albedo’s words rung through her head as she watched her boyfriend underneath her. What about moving a bit?
Without about a second thought, she took a gamble. She watched Ajax as she rolled her hips, drank in his soft moan.
“Lumi,” he murmured. His eyes widened when Lumine’s hand pinned his wrists behind his head. “What’re you…”
”Does this feel good?” She asked, moving against him again.
Ajax didn’t respond for a moment, as if debating whether he wanted to give in or not. Lumine felt her heart leap through her throat; just as she was about to apologize and move off of him, Ajax caved and nodded his head.
”Good boy.”

“Do you have any idea how scared I was?” Lumine started. “Using your delusion without a vision, activating Foul Legacy in the courtroom, escaping prison to answer the call of an Abyssal beast and then fighting it for six weeks straight.”
Childe awkwardly shifted as she continued.
”The next time I saw you, you were unconscious and thrown through a portal by your master Skirk. Now you tell me that you were out cold for weeks? Then you, by yourself, made the journey back to Fontaine? While you were still recovering?”
“Look at me, Lumine.”
Begrudgingly, Lumine leaned her head up to meet his eyes; those eyes that had lost their shine long ago, but were still filled with dedication and promise.
“See?” Childe said softly. “I’m here. I’m alive. I’m with you now.”
“Somehow,” Lumine retorted. “Do you have no concept of danger? You’re so ready to throw your life away like it’s nothing!”

Summary
Childe had quite a few scars. From his time in the Abyss to his enrollment in the Fatui, there’d been no shortage of battles. As he grew stronger, fewer opponents were able to land a hit on him. Most of his scars were fading, but the slash on his arm seemed just as bright as the day he’d gotten it.
“So this is my mark?” Lumine thumbed it gently. Proudly.
“Yep. One of my favorites.”
When he’d gotten out of the Abyss, Childe had learned very quickly that others found him…weird. People were scared of his love for battle. More and more old family friends distanced themselves from him, and Childe found himself very alone.
He wasn’t one to shy away. Childe was an upfront man, and preferred to be honest when he could. But he’d never talked about the stories behind his scars to anyone before. To him, every mark was a memory. Different scars held different tales; some of them he held closer to his heart than others.
Most people wouldn’t see it that way. They’d be freaked out at the prospect of having a “favorite scar.”
But not Lumine.

She hadn’t seen Ajax since the end of winter break, but she still knew what he looked like-and the player running on the field matched him perfectly. Tall, thin, freckled, ginger. The name Alekseyev was on the back of his jersey seemed to laugh in her face as she sank back down into her seat.

His voice goes high at the end, a tremble of disbelief mixed with panic that makes the shock in Argenti settle strangely—almost with satisfaction. He shivers, biting the inside of his cheek to hold back a nonsensical smile.
This sort of fierce devotion, of fear for his sake, it’s… “Beautiful.”
