Summary
Remember: stories are powerful. Beware the Forests. Kindness and cruelty have a price.
Ivan is a third son of extremely rich and overbearing father. After causing great scandal, his father sends him and his older brothers on a Quest that will determine his heir:to bring him scale of a dragon, golden apple and hair of a Forest witch. Despite lack of love or understanding for family business, Ivan goes on Quest to prove himself and please his father.even if it means braving dangerous Forests that contain untold monsters and dangerous magics. In order to support his expeditions, he becomes a cook in restaurant at edge of Forest.
From strange magic stalking his steps and guiding him down path of old tale, over budding friendship (or more) with his coworkers-intelligent and sarcastic accountant Anya and brooding, charming security guard Grey- to various threats inhabiting the town, mundane and magical, Ivan carves a new life for himself under guidance of restaurant's mistress, the mysterious and ancient witch manipulating the Story to happily ever after.
But tragedy is sometimes just as pleasing ending to the Story.

Originally written for Dragon Age Ladies week on Tumblr befire it turned into Morrigan week. I can think of no lady more awesome than Flemeth, and I've been wanting to write a bit about her life and times for a while. Replaying Origins recently has helped! Title is from The Once and Future King, although Flemeth is far and away better than any of the witches in that.
