Summary
Shortly after he made his lateral transfer to Manhattan, Rafael's marriage to Olivia Benson ended, and he'd been empty since. Despite his workaholic tendencies and his various sexual relationships, Rafael has been searching for something he hasn't been able to find, and getting closer and closer to bottoming out.
Life finds him on what would have been Drew Householder's second birthday, sobbing in Sonny's arms. He's been home from the hospital for four days, because roughly a week ago he slit his wrists in an attempt to kill himself.

Lawrence watches as the man sets the tools down on his stomach and takes off his shirt shakily, ignoring the pulsing wound in his stomach and carefully pulling the plain white fabric over the piece of clanking metal snaking around his skull. With shaking hands, he wipes up the blood, using the shirt as an impromptu towel, and goes right back in with the scissors, an even more guttural and panicked groan coming through the camera feed.
When Amanda turns around, finally having caught her breath, something catches her eye, and she furrows her brows as she leans in.
“John.” She says with a tinge of anxiety.

It isn’t an instant connection, by any means--both of them are far too reserved for that--but they get along well enough, in a polite, circumstantial sort of way. Lawrence is certainly the only father in the figure skating parent group, and though Logan isn’t the only father of a youth hockey player, his daughter is one of the few girls out there, setting him apart from the crowd. They both keep to themselves, for the most part, until Diana and Melissa make fast friends during the gap time between their respective lessons about 2 weeks into their programs.
And really, it's all upwards from there.

Mirrors were often used as portals for other worlds, although temporary in its function. Relief floods over him when he watches the mirror ripple, a clear sign it’s being used for communication and is doing more than reflecting his face back at him. But it doesn’t last long: he may have discovered a major break in the case.
There’s a person trapped in a realm that communicates with mirrors. And Sonny has to help him.
