Summary
‘You got tired of me,’ Joker says, but it’s too lovestruck to sound like a proper accusation. ‘Somewhere, somehow, stringing me along must have got too easy! Not fun anymore! Boring!’
His voice cracks even higher on that word. He’s moving like a possessed performer, all twirly and flourishing gestures. He keeps pacing around the padded room, circling in and out of Bruce’s vision.
‘But I know you,’ Joker points out, voice turning husky. ‘Oh, I do. I know you better now than I ever did. I know what makes your motor run. And you know? I’m flexible.’
TAGLINE: Bruce realises he’s let Joker in too deep, and tries to cut the cord between them.

Bruce hears laughter before anything else, mad whooping howls echoing out of the smoke. He follows that sound to its source: a lithe man watching the burning factory with rank delight. His messy green hair is all aglow in the firelight, the man rocking on his heels with his thumbs through the loops of his jeans. Even now, he’s laughing, prattling away to himself like it’s a nice night for a bonfire.
