    Post-Blood of Olympus

    (:)

    “He felt exhausted.

Fatigue plagued him, to the point where he couldn’t even move. The weariness physically pained him - where was this the past few days? And suddenly, everything hit him, his eyes wide.

    He hadn’t slept since Tartarus.

Ever since he made it back onto the Argo II. He kept his eyes open, staring at the wall, so consumed with guilt and flashbacks and pain that he couldn’t muster up the courage to close his eyes and even have a chance to be plagued by those dreadful nightmares. He laid there on his bed, listening to the faint screams of Annabeth from the other room, Piper bursting inside to comfort her. None of the the rest of the Seven took note of Percy's eyebags the following days.”

    “No.“

The word rang trough the throne room like a gunshot.

Hermes’ fingers, which had previously danced over the screen of his caduceus halted and he raised an eyebrow as he looked up at Poseidon.

The Lord of the Sea held his head high, regally, unrelenting. His eyes were as dark as the waters surrounding Charybdis and his glance bored into each and every one of them, while his hands rested on his trident.

    A silent threat.

It’s a Reading the book story.

Old, done a million times and completely self-indulgent.

If you like this kind of story you’re probably desperate enough to check every new one out, if you don’t, I know there is nothing at all I can say to convince you to read this one, and if you don’t know what a reaction fic is and simply start this one out of curiosity , I might be the one to drag you into this rabbit hole.

If that’s the case, I am deeply sorry, and good luck. It’s pretty hard to leave this trope behind once you’re into it.

    Summary

"I'm looking for books about Greek mythology," Percy told the librarian. "About a boy who fell out of the sky."

"That would be Icarus, dear," she said. "He accidentally flew too close to the sun and paid the ultimate price. It's a fascinating myth, if sad. He fell into the sea and drowned."

Percy bit his tongue to stop himself from crying out. He could remember someone calling him by that name, long ago. Someone who had loved him beyond measure. He could hear the roaring of a monster and furious shouting, could see a young woman with sad eyes and a hero holding a ball of twine in one hand and a sword in the other. He saw the golden man again. His eyes bore into Percy's very soul, tearing him apart and leaving him bare.

Icarus hadn't accidentally flown too close to the sun, Percy suddenly knew. He'd wanted to burn, wanted to fly. He'd wanted to fall.

    ———————

Or, in another life, Percy was Icarus, the boy who flew too close to the sun. Apollo is still the same.
