But just as Wei Ying braced for impact, Lan Zhan caught him—straddling him, their faces mere inches apart.

“Lan Zhan, won’t you stay here with me in Yiling?” Wei Ying asks softly, slowly blinking up to meet Lan Zhan’s gaze. “If you stay, you could protect us. You could protect me.”
Lan Zhan couldn’t have given it any less thought.
“Yes,” he breathes out, almost immediately. “Yes, Wei Ying, if you’d like me to stay—if you want me, here. I will—I can. I will stay.”
It’d been so easy, Wei Ying has to deliberately hide his shock.
Or, Lan Zhan asks Wei Ying to return to Gusu with him. Wei Ying gets him to stay in Burial Mounds instead.
