Annabeth famously ran away from home when she was seven. The lesser known story is what happened before: the spiders, one of her brothers dying (and her dad lying), the other faking his death (and her dad lying), and neither of them coming home (back when she was Elizabeth Wayne).
There were many years that she was too angry to face her dad, again. Then were the nights she swore she’d never go crawling back.
They didn’t deserve her. (Or was it the other way around?)
She didn’t know if she’d be welcomed back. And how was a child meant to handle that uncertainty?
Now, all grown up at twenty-four, she was determined to see her mortal family—the old, the new, and the undead—even if it wouldn’t mean going home, anymore.
Because they had all changed, but maybe that wasn’t such a bad thing.

Heroes don’t get happy endings.
But damn if that will stop Annabeth from weaving her own.
