Summary
Sirius pushes against Remus’ forehead slightly and asks, “Together?”
“Always.” Remus rubs his nose back and forth across Sirius’ nose.
Sirius then gazes into Remus’ brown eyes and whispers, “I love you, you know.”
The smile he receives in answer to that declaration is one of those rare, enchanted Remus Lupin smiles that very few have ever been privileged to receive. “And I, you,” he says, clear as day.
Sirius and Remus are in touch through letters during the time Sirius lives in the cave near Hogsmeade from November 1994 - March 1995. Then Remus begins making visits to the cave, for the full moons and otherwise, and they communicate through the two-way mirrors. The two men find themselves falling for one another, and through memories we can see that perhaps they were destined to be together from the start.

Summary
Remus raises his wand because he can feel the answer bubbling up in his throat and he won’t, he can’t, let it out. He has tried for six years to move past this spectre from the halls of Hogwarts, tried to accept that that part of his life was over, and now Sirius is testing every sore spot, needling every vein, digging up every grave. Remus has spent half a decade building walls and he’ll be fucking damned if Sirius pulls them down. Yes, he is hurting, yes, he misses Sirius with every inch of his body, yes, he felt something for the first time in years waking up with Sirius’ breath on his neck, but he does not know this man. The Sirius he knew walked out of Hogwarts in May 1976, and this Beauxbatons-educated, fine upstanding rebel with a good haircut is a stranger.
The events of 1976 change the course of the Marauders’ lives and now in 1982, after drifting away from his childhood friends, Remus Lupin struggles with the reappearance of the one person he thought he would never see again.

He tried to fight the smile from blooming on his face, but he really couldn’t. It felt like things were finally turning around for him. After weeks of trying to break away from an emotional mudflat, Regulus was being offered a firm life line. More than a temporary solution. For the first time since he moved out from his old place, he felt like he could breathe.
