“So you’ll just tear it up like that?” Al Haitham said, hands shaking as his mouth flatlined. The harsh lights of the Akademiya made him feel more washed out, less and less like the gentle moonlit boy Kaveh spent the last few years growing up with and more like the robotic thing idiots accused Al Haitham of being.
“We are making homes. Do you know what a home is supposed to feel like? Not this cold thing you keep wanting. Keep pushing for cutting corners for more advantageous calculations. People are going to live in these.”
“Please Kaveh. Everyone else might believe you, but around me stop acting like you care about them. Everything you do has always been for you and you alone. You crave attention like a child and refuse to accommodate others outside of your outlandish beliefs you should believe in but clearly don't.”
“Stop acting like you care about me at all,” Kaveh said. “You’re like me–no one left home anymore. I know the curses I bring, just like you said.” Kaveh could remember not being able to stop what he said next. “Do you even know why no one wants to be around you Al Haitham?”

I hate you. I hate you so much. I bet the only thing you care about is yourself and your infinite supply of books. Kaveh laments internally. And then, in a moment of impulsivity:
I want your eyes on me instead.
Suddenly, the book is quickly snapped shut as Alhaitham blinks down at the cover with a funny expression.
Or: Alhaitham is a telepath. No one told Kaveh about this.

Summary
In thirty minutes, Alhaitham is going to be home, and Kaveh needs to be able to be his most composed self for the inevitable confrontation that will happen the second his roommate is through the door.
Actually— no, scratch that.
Why live through the confrontation at all when he could move out right the fuck now? If he starts packing this very second he can at least take a bag for some of his clothes and another for his most important tools. Right? Right.
Kaveh accidentally ends a phone call with “I love you.” Alhaitham… deals with it.

Yae hoped so. Love was never meant to stay bittersweet afterall.
“I love you,” Yae said, the sunrise peeking in through the screens behind her. Ei always looked best in the light.
