Summary
Xie Lian's last believer is so fervently devoted to him that he seems to think mostly in the form of prayer. That is a terrifying prospect. Xie Lian has never heard of such a case before, not even in hypotheticals, and he finds himself hoping, for his believer's sake, that there is some other explanation for this phenomenon.
Whatever the reason, a low stream of his believer's thoughts hum in the back of Xie Lian's consciousness.
His believer does not seem to be aware of it.

When Xie Lian ascends for the third time, he is welcomed back to godhood with prayers that he hadn't expected: an ongoing stream of thought from his sole remaining believer. He gathers quickly that this believer is very old, very powerful, and very, very much in love with him.
For his believer's sake, Xie Lian can cast a spell to shut the prayers out—but only if he has access to spiritual energy.

Xie Lian was not entirely unfamiliar with being in the presence of attractive people; the rich spared little expense to look their best when they were trying to impress their peers, after all. There was just something about his fitted jeans and worn leather jacket, far more casual than one would have expected at such an event, that made it all seem so effortless. Xie Lian was sure he must have looked like a slack-jawed fool, but the odd-eyed stare of the stranger appeared just as astonished.
They had certainly never crossed paths before, but Xie Lian couldn't shake the inexplicable ebullience of familiarity, as if nearly every part of him was delighted to see this man, and only his mind hadn't gotten the memo. Still, he was compelled to ask, "Have we met before?"
The man's shapely brows drew together, and Xie Lian felt a pang of guilt for having the audacity to disturb the flawless landscape of his features with such a silly question.
