    When the door to Wilbur’s flat hisses open, releasing more smoke and grit than usual, he’s got great big circles under his eyes. Tommy blinks at him once, twice. “You look like shit,” he says, and ducks his way inside.
    “Gee, thanks,” Wilbur says, no heat to his voice. He lingers a moment at the door, head turning this way and that, before letting it shutter closed. “Bad week for the ol’ asthma. You been good?”
    “Coping,” Tommy sighs. “I’m still alive, Wil - y’know how it is.”
    “A hard knock life, up in those towers,” Wilbur agrees. He’s smiling. “Want anything to eat?”

    Or: Tommy's a pure-blooded, unmodified human from up in the skyscrapers. Wilbur insists he's unmodified, but has been acting cagey lately. Phil's got great big metal wings, Tubbo runs a pub for the modified and Ranboo's part of the hidden network to get them to safety, Techno doesn't bother hiding his cybernetic eyes or prosthetic leg, Tommy's got some bias to work through - and amongst all of this, Wilbur has vanished, and Tommy's willing to do anything to see him again.

    The guard stared at him for a moment, blue eyes blown wide behind his mask.

    It was then the Pythia looked down at the hand outstretched between them. The prosthetic was made of intricately carved metal, covered in vines and flowers twisting together with the shimmer of enchantments reflecting in the purple glow.

    And although the guard’s sleeve was covering his wrist, he knew that in the place where metal met flesh, there was a pair of dark angel wings tattooed on his skin.

    He was right. This wasn’t a real guard.

    This was a Deathling.

    or, Wilbur is an oracle known as the Pythia, chosen to receive dreams of the future from the goddess Clara. One day, he receives a dream warning him that during a ball Emperor Schlatt is hosting, the Deathlings—terrorists who worship the goddess of Death—will launch an attack. When his warning goes ignored, he knows there's going to be consequences.

    He doesn't expect one of those consequences to include him getting kidnapped by a teenager.

    Wilbur wasn't really worried until the oozing started.

    That's when he actually considered getting help.
    He dismissed the idea as ridiculous immediately. Of course he couldn’t ask for help, who in the entire area would want to see his eyes slowly sliding down his face?

     

    Who could he bear to show such weakness to, who could he trust with the disgusting mess he was and not expect them to turn away?
