Summary
He wasn't technically supposed to be out of bed, much less sitting outside, but nobody could begrudge a pregnant man his midnight piss, so there was an unwritten agreement between the MICC staff and the men that if one spotted the other in the hall after hours, silence was the golden rule no matter what. George was outside because he felt hot under his pajamas, like he has been with all his clothes the last few months, ever since he and Joe were a little less than responsible about using a rubber last September. He won't quite call it a mistake, but these were less than ideal conditions for fatherhood and joy for just about anything was in short supply.

Summary
He hasn’t ever felt like this before, the ceaseless hum of want, the way his skin was too small for his bones, and God, his brain was addled to hell and back. Too many thoughts, and not in the way he was used to. Worries over death, worries over not fucking up during a mission were normal. His brain being fixated on John Brady like a fucking broken record was not.
Johnny Brady sternly telling him to get a grip after accidentally directing them to France. John Brady grinning after a mission, all teeth and jittery glee. John Brady, watching him from across the room of the O Club. John Brady with his stern eyes and his flat mouth and his sure hands and his–
Fuck. He’s doing it again. Harry closes his eyes, resists the urge to go sit in the sun until it bleaches his brain clean. His whole body aches, the small shrapnel wounds from the mission scabbed over and itchy, his sunburn peeling and irritated. Maybe the sand will swallow him before anyone notices he’s gone. Here lies Harry Crosby, taken before his time because he was harder than an impatient fourteen year old for his pilot. As the 100th waits, grounded in Algeria, Harry Crosby finds his attention preoccupied with a certain pilot.

Summary
Marjorie Spencer had never been a foolish woman, and she was never one to believe relentless hate. She was an optimist, a barely faithful catholic, and above all else, practical. When you were born into a country reeling from one war and teetering towards another you tend to get a little used to survival, and all its unusualness.
So, when she realizes that her lover's best friend is also in love with him, the first thing she does is carefully and quickly find out what the army does to Queer folk. The second thing she does, after scoffing at the idiocracy of blue notes and dishonorable discharges from an army desperate for men, is sit down and decide what exactly she’s going to do.
-
(Or Marjorie Spencer decides to hell with it and makes a home out of two soldier boys.) (Or Gale Cleven has never known how to love selflessly, and my God, he wants them both.) (Or John Egan had decided that he was going to die in this war, but he wasn’t counting on two stubborn blondes dragging his ass out of hell.)
