Selling not just your body, but your soul and mind to a cause that you only get to choose in the most general of senses, trained to obediently follow the line attached to your collar without question. Collecting a toll; of lives, of regrets, of wasted worries until you're reduced to the blank stare that responds instantly with a "yes, Sir" until nothing more remains behind the last echoes of your voice?
Or maybe you were just being a little melodramatic, equally possible.
