The cup scraped softly against the counter as it stopped in front of her.
“Drink,” Vander said, voice low and rough with sleep. “Looks like you didn’t get any shut-eye.”
Jinx barely lifted her head, cracking an eye open to glare at the cup. “What’s the point?” she mumbled, her voice thick with tiredness. “I’m already dead.”
“Drink it anyway,” Vander said, smirking. “Might bring you back to life.”
She groaned but grabbed the cup, fingers wrapping around the cool metal, and took a slow sip through the bent straw. She rested her chin back on the bar with an exaggerated sigh.
“I’m not going to school,” she declared, swirling the drink with lazy twirls of the straw.
Vander leaned against the counter, folding his arms, the stained apron stretching across his chest. “Oh yeah? What’s your excuse today?”
“I already know everything,” Jinx muttered, blowing a strand of blue hair out of her face. “It’s boring. Pointless.”
Vander huffed a chuckle, shaking his head. “That so? Got all the answers, do you?”
“Yep,” she said, smug, sinking lower against the counter. “No point wasting time on stuff I already know.”
