Summary
Mu Qing had never been excited for his birthdays. They were constant reminders of his mother, and he didn't need images of the dead haunting him. He's a busy god, after all. His dislike for birthdays only intensified when the entire Heavenly Realm just decided he didn't exist in the weeks leading up to his birthday. Normally, it wouldn't hurt when others ignored him or talked shit about him. Mu Qing was used to that. What Mu Qing was not used to, however, was being ignored by the object of his frustrations (and affections). All in all, birthdays were pretty shitty.

Mu Qing is a sad, dumb idiot who thinks no one likes him. Feng Xin, also a sad, dumb idiot wants to show Mu Qing that he is loved. Shenanigans ensue.

“No. Fuck you.” Mu Qing points a finger at Feng Xin’s chest. All his rage radiates outwards, too expansive to be contained within his body. “The sheer stupidity you exude made me come all the way out here looking like this to tell you to your face that I cannot believe, in the vast history of the world, that a person so positively asinine was birthed by some hapless mother.”
Feng Xin gapes. Satisfaction floods Mu Qing. The feeling vanishes when he sees the look in Feng Xin’s eye, equal parts glazed over and darkened. It’s so far from Mu Qing’s intent that he has no choice but to be affronted.
Then Feng Xin says, “you want to fuck about it?” And Mu Qing blanks.
Reasonably, the answer should be no. Mu Qing will not go home and fuck a near-stranger. More importantly, he will not squander his morals to have sex with someone so stupid he was forced to chew him out face to face.
“Idiot,” Mu Qing says. “Where’s your car?”

Mu Qing will not go on a date with a stranger, fuck a stranger, or have a breakdown in a stranger's bathroom after failing to succeed in the previous two. Feng Xin is the absolute worst.

Hua Cheng says, “Dianxia moved back to the city,” and all Mu Qing can see is fucking static.
“Xie Lian what?”
Mu Qing considers the likelihood of running into Feng Xin in a city this big. He considers the likelihood of it meaning anything, the way nothing from high school stuck after they grew up and into adulthood. Eight years is almost a decade, and a decade is almost a third of Mu Qing’s life.
Feng Xin has been gone for a third of his life. Does that counteract the third of his life he was in, or erase it completely?

Eight years after leaving, Xie Lian and Feng Xin move back to the city. Mu Qing wants nothing to do with them. Easier said than done, what with his roommate Hua Cheng pestering Mu Qing to set him up with Xie Lian and Feng Xin showing up at his favorite coffee shop.
