Summary
It wasn't so simple as stating that "All was well" upon the conclusion of the war. While some managed to return to a normal life without fear or lingering wounds and scars; both physical and otherwise; Harry, Hermione, and Ron were not one of them. Harry, plagued by constant nightmares and an ever-growing depression, channel his misery into researching the Veil underneath the Ministry as a way to cope and ease his guilt for causing Sirius death. It is there, through the help of Hermione, that they discover a great conspiracy.
The Veil isn't a Gateway to the Land of the Dead... but to somewhere else entirely, and Sirius might not be as dead as they first believed.

Rain fell, wetting the mountain path and causing the rocks to become slick. Thunder rumbled somewhere in the distance, accompanying a previous flash. A soaked figure trudged along in the downpour, sure-footed and hidden by a dark black cloak. Twin swords hung at their side along with a bow strapped to their back with a full quiver of elvish arrows. A satchel hung across their chest, holding very few things. Some bandages and medicine, a change of clothes, rope and a single piece of paper marked with the King of Mirkwood wax symbol. A contract of employment one could say.

Finarfin is kind, until he isn't. He is kind until his rage boils over and he leaves the throne to whoever wants it.
Gildor - the name he takes - is a wanderer. He wanders Arda giving advice to Kings of Men and Elves and whoever else wishes for it.
Gildor is a wanderer looking for a nephew that cannot be found and just as he's beginning to have his doubts he stumbles across a Peredhel with features that are far too similar to that of his missing nephew.
For his part, Tristan - Caladion, Gildor calls him - would like to know why he's an elf. He's fairly certain he should be dead.
