“Lan Zhan.”
His stranger slowly approaches him like a predator. Lan Zhan does not move. He is one as well.
“I am demonic, Lan Zhan,” his stranger says, leaning over him. “I’ll take you, I’ll ruin you. I am the devil; don’t you know?”
The fog gradually turns darker until nothing is visible anymore. There is a hand on him, a gentle touch on his chin tilting his head up. His stranger’s eyes are red, piercing into his own. Lan Zhan can make out the blurry shape of a body, his stranger barely visible in this darkness, the only exception being the red color that digs and buries itself into Lan Zhan.
“Lan Zhan...”
By now, there has been enough time for Lan Zhan to recall.
Lan Zhan becomes feral, and then he learns.

That day, people cheered and celebrated in the streets. Alcohol flowed freely, and everyone was in high spirits. Wei Wuxian couldn’t get away from the ruckus if he tried. It was as though when Lan Wangji ascended, so did everyone who heard the news.
In Wei Wuxian’s mind, it had been a foregone conclusion. If anyone in his generation was going to cultivate to such a level, it could only be Lan Wangji. There was no one else so righteous, so deserving, so powerful.
Why then, didn’t Wei Wuxian feel much like celebrating when he heard the news?
