Balance is very important thing for creatures that take Paths of Aeons that opposite to their fate. If it breaks and makes the scales tilt at least in one direction, the other will try to restore it immediately, bringing terrible pain to its owner.
Yanqing was well aware of this. And he hated it. He hated so much how he could smell lilies and irises while this whole process of healing was going on in front of his eyes.

She and Kazahaya were so lucky to have Kamui as their third lab partner! He wasn't good at chemistry, or math exactly, but he always remembered instructions word for word. Honestly, it'd never once made sense to her that Kamui had been left over at the end during lab partner picks. But their loss was her and Kazahaya's gain!
Inspired by a couple of tumblr posts from kamuishiro and kanade-nekozawa, as well as my own high school chemistry class silliness. Thanks to the lovely vantasticmess for looking it over and providing a summary!

Yanqing’s mouth formed a thin line, and he diverted his gaze elsewhere. At the hustle and bustle of Luofu in the afternoon, Starskiffs coming and going—anything. His brain spun, replaying Yunli’s question while searching for an answer. Then, after several dead ends, he gave up.
"What does that have to do with anything?"
"Everything!"
"Everything how?"
"Because," Yunli raised her index finger in the air, pointing at him like a teacher at his old academy teaching a slow student. "Because you can’t just treat a girl as a Cloud Knight, or a swordmaster, or—or you can’t just follow her around all the time and show interest in her only to ask her to spar!"
"Well, I am interested in you—"
"And you can’t say stuff like that!"
Or, puberty finally hits Yanqing, and having Jing Yuan as his role model in some aspects of life (namely: romance) seems like a bad idea.
