“Oh,” Stiles said, his voice coming out low and breathy, “fuck me.”
“I don’t think that’s on the syllabus, but we can check to see if there’s a spot open in any of his classes,” Scott said, grinning.
“This isn’t an actual professor, though,” Stiles insisted, unable to resist brushing his thumb over the sharp line of the man’s bearded jaw. He was laughing at something off-camera, the shot taken in three-quarters view, his coat collar casually rumpled and opened to reveal a sliver of a simple grey t-shirt. The whole thing was deliberately calculated to lend him a more accessible feel, and god help him, Stiles was falling for it.

“Look,” Buck said, closing his eyes. “I’ve kinda been hogging you, realised that today. You’ve got - got so many people who wanna look after you, Eds, and it’s hard for them to get in while I’m… hovering. So. I’m back home, and y’know, if you do end up needing me, you can always call, but there are other people you can call too. Better suited people.”
Eddie’s quiet for a long time on the other end of the call. Long enough that Buck brings his phone away from his ear to check he’s still connected.
“Yeah,” Eddie said eventually. “No. You’re right. I guess you can, uh, rest easy tonight. Your own bed. No having to wrangle a kid to bed.”
“Hey,” Buck said. “Chris is my best friend, I don’t mind wrangling him.”
Eddie laughed, a quick soft noise. “Okay,” he said. “Right. Night, Buck.” He hung up before Buck could reply.
-Or - neither Buck or Eddie are good at using their words in a useful sort of way and they both end up feeling (and getting) hurt. Happy ending though, I swear.

Summary
