Remus Lupin was very well practiced in the art of keeping secrets. He'd been keeping a most dire one the majority of his life after all. While difficult at times, it never preyed on his conscience quite as much as the secret he'd been keeping from Lyla. It was not just the two of them, alone in the world, like he had led her to believe. She had a brother; a twin brother who was equally as unaware of her existence as she was of his and that...that was entirely his fault. He could have come forward at any time in the past 13 years, told her the truth or at least revealed her survival to those trusted few and let fate take the wheel. But he was selfish in his heartbreak. The loss of his family and devastation to his world had torn sensibility from his normal levelheaded being. Which is how he landed himself in this predicament: mere weeks away from starting his new job at a school that couldn't possibly exist-how was he to own up to all his past transgressions? Magic wasn't real and they were alone in the world. The lies had felt like a kindness at the time. Keeping secrets were of no consequence. Revealing them on the other hand might just take more courage than his House ever expected of him.
