Remus Lupin was very well practiced in the art of keeping secrets. He'd been keeping a most dire one the majority of his life after all. While difficult at times, it never preyed on his conscience quite as much as the secret he'd been keeping from Lyla. It was not just the two of them, alone in the world, like he had led her to believe. She had a brother; a twin brother who was equally as unaware of her existence as she was of his and that...that was entirely his fault. He could have come forward at any time in the past 13 years, told her the truth or at least revealed her survival to those trusted few and let fate take the wheel. But he was selfish in his heartbreak. The loss of his family and devastation to his world had torn sensibility from his normal levelheaded being. Which is how he landed himself in this predicament: mere weeks away from starting his new job at a school that couldn't possibly exist-how was he to own up to all his past transgressions? Magic wasn't real and they were alone in the world. The lies had felt like a kindness at the time. Keeping secrets were of no consequence. After you're fired you gave up on pursuing your passions in order to avoid slipping further into your depression, but when Tony Stark seeks you out and offers you a job there's no way he'd let you say no. He'd been a frequent guest at the restaurant, has had you cater for his parties, and he knows you. So after sending back a meal he did not like, and finding out about your firing, he had come up with an idea. The Avengers needed a live in chef, and you needed your confidence back. You accept his offer, the threat of your eviction not giving you a choice, but you have your own requests. Nobody can be in the kitchen while you cook. Only it doesn't last long until a couple of curious super soldiers start ignoring your one request.
