— Why are you always protecting me? - she asked.

Caitlyn grimaced, looking at the ugly bruise forming on the wolf's angular chin.
— But why? -.
Vi finally turned to look at her, gray eyes softening under her gaze.

Summary
Swallowing, Caitlyn pressed herself to the wall. Something near her elbow clicked, and the fluorescent lights turned on one by one. As the glass cage and the creature within revealed themselves, fear tightened harder in her chest.
Caitlyn couldn’t really describe it. Only the obvious things; red skin, yellow eyes, white matted hair, horns, tail. Like it had crawled from hell itself.
Her heart pounded. Cold sweat and goosebumps broke all over her skin. She felt hot and cold all at once.
Then the creature spoke. Low, throaty and husky. Threatening.

Summary
After the fall of her pack when Vi's entire family was killed, and she is cursed forcing her to shift remaining in her wolf form permanently. Vi's then sold into an underground dog fighting ring. For 5 years Vi is forced to fight and win matches to survive. The longer she remains in wolf form the more her humanity slips allowing her primal side to take over. At least until the day the fighting ring was busted.
Caitlyn is a slayer working for the wardens a branch of the enforcers headed by Greyson dealing with supernatural crimes. Her current assignment: tracking down an illegal dog fighting ring run by a coven of mages. When Caitlyn first sees wolf 516 she sees a terrified animal in survival mode. When the mages are cut off from their magic and the other wolves are able to shift back 516 does not. It intrigues Caitlyn, something about the eyes of the red dog in front of her causes Caitlyn to question things and decides to adopt the dog. Once in Caitlyn's care, Vi slowly learns to trust. Caitlyn can tell there is a greater mystery afoot surrounding her four-legged companion and she has to work quickly to figure it out before the shadows of Vis past catches up to them both.

Summary
You're not supposed to find your roommate, and best friend, and built-in school event partner attractive. That's rule number one. If you break rule number one, then under no circumstances are you supposed to admit it. Vi knows the rules-she wrote them for herself when she first met Caitlyn Kiramman halfway through her freshman year at Piltover-Zaun University.
It's a good gig. Caitlyn is funny, sweet, kind, and she does her dishes. They have some similar courses so they can help each other. Their friends all get along. Sure, Caitlyn likes to thread her arm through Vi's when they walk, and she always wants to sit next to Vi anytime they go out. But that's what friends do. So when everyone jokes that Caitlyn and Vi are dating and the taller girl just laughs it off, Vi always laughs too. Because you can find your roommate attractive, but you can't do anything about it.
That is until some election results lead to Vi finding a very drunk Caitlyn just sitting on her motorcycle. Outside. In the dark. Where Caitlyn is very much not joking.
