“Did she have any enemies?”
“Strangely, yes. That woman had more restraining orders than anyone I’ve ever met.”

“Why not? It’s the first thing you should find out when investigating a murder.”

Summary
A.Z. Fell and Co. Antiquarian Bookshop has been the ultimate paradox for book lovers for over 200 years: It has almost every book imaginable, but an owner who refuses to sell any of them. At least there is fun to be had and friends to be made in the ambitious, if rarely successful, endeavours of the customers.

“I think I should write you a song about American Pie,” Francesca half-slurred.
“Huh?” Michaela laughed. She turned her head, and Francesca swore that her heart stopped for a few moments, as their faces were mere inches apart. “Oh my god, you’re wasted.”
(or: Francesca feels guilty about being attracted to Michaela after losing John, ft. a backdrop of Bridgerton Family Chaos and a fun Fancy Dress Party).

Your soulmate's first words to you are present on your skin from birth. It's a shame that Ballister's soulmate had cut off the arm where they had been.
OR: Ballister has a crisis because he doesn't have Ambrosius's soul words anymore (arm chopping is NOT a love language) and he's not sure how to tell his soulmate that it makes him insecure about their relationship. Spoiler alert, Ambrosius finds out anyways and kisses it all better.

Summary
Everything is great.
Okay, maybe not great, Ambrosius thinks as he fiddles with Bal’s arm, trying to remember where the fuck the charging port was again, because it would be really awkward to have to ask again—but the point is, he decides when he manages to flick off the cover (to protect against short-circuiting in shitty conditions, brilliant engineering, brilliant boyfriend) and find the port, is that everything is great-ish.The issue is that everything is great, except for that while he’s been resolutely struggling with Bal’s arm, he’s been watched by a reddish and very, very smug shark from the couch, arms folded in an annoyingly and distinctively human way, and said shark has very notably just sat on the couch and refused to say shit about how to charge Bal’s arm, even though Ambrosius is sure Nimona knows.
It's one of those things that you really, really don’t want to confront, but you’re also not a fucking idiot, so you know if you don’t, it’s going to come back and bite you. And because it's Nimona, that might be more literal than he's ready for.
Bal gets sick. Nimona and Ambrosius have to get along. There's greasy takeaway.

Summary
For Ambrosius, the Goldenloins' annual charity gala is an assault course of invasive questions, unsolicited opinions, and unwanted conversations.
It'd be easier if Ballister were there. But going home to him is better.
Todd half stumbles into Ambrosius, then rights himself. ‘Can you imagine it, though? I mean, can you even imagine Ballister at some fancy party? Imagine it, right? So hilarious.’
In fact, Ambrosius has spent most of tonight longingly thinking of exactly that. How much better this night would be if he could dance with Bal, could bridge any separation not by thinking of him all the way across the city in his Institute dorm, but with just a shared glance across the room—Aren’t the two of us beyond all this? Don’t you wish we could get out of here? Ten more minutes, and I’m all yours. Could be openly affectionate, hold his hand, kiss his cheek. Could answer journalists honestly: Yes, I am with someone, actually, and I love him very much.
