Summary
In one universe, it goes like this:
The flashing lights blind him, the cold metal of the cuffs on his wrists cut off his air, and the world becomes a distorted watercolor painting that he can only recall in flashes of emotion and sound.
In that universe, he goes to Tokyo knowing what happened but unable to recall the details of who until confronted with the offending party face to face after heartbreak and betrayal ravaged his world.
In this universe, it goes like this:
The cops come and the cuffs are cold as ice, but his eyes burn as he stares down the man about to ruin his life. He stares and stares with eyes everyone told him were too intense as he painstakingly committed the face to memory.
He refused to forget his face.
And a simple Google search later got him the rest.
In this universe, when he went to Tokyo, he was armed with a name. And that? Turned out to be the key to everything.
Or:
The Thieves take down Shido as their second palace instead of their last. This has consequences. Akechi shaped consequences.

Summary
He leveled the Thieves a flat look.
"Is there a point here, or are you just going to talk in circles until Amamiya arrives and explains it himself?"
Predictably, Sakamoto was the one to cave first.
"Ren's from the future!" he blurted out, and then froze, as if regretting it immediately.
Akechi blinked.
Stared.
Watched as the boy's face grew progressively redder and redder.
Watched as the other Thieves watched him.
Finally, he opened his mouth.
"What."

Summary
“Oh, do you need a ride too?”
Ren blinked, ripping his gaze away from the tense form of the mysterious girl settling into the passenger seat and instead staring at the man behind the wheel. His smile was genial, his offer seemingly sincere, but his eyes…
Well the look in those eyes was horrifically familiar.
Without thinking, he reached forward and opened the car door, smoothly slipping into the back seat.

Akechi stared at his reflection, his hands gripping the sides of the porcelain sink in a white knuckled grip as he stared into his bathroom mirror.
He looked… young.

MAJOR SPOILERS THROUGH THE END OF METAPHOR IN SUMMARY AND STORY
In the moments after Will tears his heart out to stop Louis's curse, as he's bleeding out, alone and dying, More gives him an offer: reject the world he's always known in favor of the world of his book, his perfect utopia. Live there, or return to reality, and die.
Will chooses to die.
Unfortunately for both of them, that perfect, utopian reality exists, in Maruki's Tokyo of 2017. And once the offer is made, it's not that easy to avoid being sucked into his world.

Summary
Will’s always been set on helping others, and he’s damn good at it, but rarely does he shed tears for himself. When he talks about himself, it’s always for the benefit of others, making promises to right wrongs even if it means enduring the unjust prejudices people have toward him. Strohl used to think it was admirable, but seeing the way Will fights against the need to let what he’s feeling out is one of the most heartbreaking things he’s ever seen.
[Or: When they can't make sense of the sudden changes, the important things stay the same.]

Summary
Sometime in the night he wakes with a hand outstretched, aiming past the glass ceiling into the black beyond. He is artificial; he is two lives; he is the ideals of the prince; he is the prince; he is king. He is something to be feared.
There was a part of him that believed that he would die killing Louis. There is a part of him forever stuck in that past, those battles, even as time continues its relentless march and leaves him to embrace his kingly duties in the hopes of creating a utopia against all the forces working against him.
They’ve made it to the end, lives intact. His friends are with him. Strohl may love him.
Will… struggles to trust that. The dawn, laughing from its place high above, arrives regardless.
or: the seasons in between the first and second journey which, unfortunately for will, are journeys all in of themselves.
