Blood was saturating the lands more and more with each passing day. Was watering the ground that funeral pyres continued to be built on. With the children of the kingdom breathing in more ash than air.

Felix chuckled, low and dark. He leaned forward, pressing his bloodied palms against the bars of his cell. “Come on, Bang. You can admit it. You’re curious. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be here.”
Chris’s hands curled into fists at his sides. He should walk away. Report this behavior. Anything but stand here, letting Felix toy with him like a puppet on a string. But his feet felt rooted to the ground, and his pulse thundered in his ears.
Felix’s voice softened, becoming almost a purr. “What’s wrong, handsome? Cat got your tongue? Or is it that little voice in your head, the one that whispers late at night when you’re all alone?”
Chris Bang is the most senior guard at Levanter Penitentiary. Felix Lee is his favourite inmate.
