Written for this prompt on the Avengers kinkmeme:
A 'Tony gets his arc reactor forcefully removed' story, because that's never been done before, amirite?
I'd like to see one of the Avengers casually removing the arc reactor for something (presumably something important enough to do so without asking, but definitely not important enough that they'd consider risking someone's life for it). Because none of them were ever told what it really was. They assume it's just a power source for the suit.
Tony, though, honestly thinks they all do know what it's for, and thus is horrified and betrayed. And they all learn the hard way just what it is as he lays there dying by their hand (and then fix him in the nick of time, of course).
Bonuses:
- Much comforting afterward.
- He's suited up at the time. And so they take even longer to realize something's wrong, since him collapsing when he's wearing a suit they just deactivated is not particularly concerning.
- Steve is the one who does the removing.Pretty much does what it says on the tin.

Summary
It's not over till it's over... which basically means keep going till you get what you want, in some people's books. Roughly 2.5 seconds after the Avengers go into exile, they're coming back, ready to sign the Accords and be Avengers again. Unable to resist the political boon as far as getting other people to sign goes, the Counsel pardons them and draws up contracts with Tony Stark in order to house them in someplace appropriate (read: with someone whose dealt with hem before).
The task is wearing Tony down, though. Even as he races to come up with enough new Avengers to keep the old dynamic from setting up again, Tony is falling deeper into a funk where he's unable to invent or eat or sleep all that much, there are people all around pressuring him to do all sorts of bad ideas. But as the pounds fall off and the duties build up and fear of letting people in again piles on and Tony gets more and more irrational regarding the old Avengers, people begin to suspect that something is wrong. Very, very wrong.

Summary
Tony seems to be the only person who doesn't drive him crazy. Stephen actually finds his antics... adorable. For Tony's sake he even works together (sometimes) with the Avengers and talks to them (barely). Minus Steve with his too tight shirts. Steve, who is a little too close to Tony for Stephen's liking.

Summary
Tony Stark wake's up in a Hospital in Illinois with no idea how he got there, after being healed enough to go home he has to battle, pain, loss, nightmares, betrayal. But also trying to trust the friends he does have, protect a kid he considers a son, fall in love with an old friend and to put the past in the past but it's hard when the Rogue Avengers are breathing down his neck from afar and brings back painful memories.
Not the best summary but I tried.
