Varian’s new invention to take revenge on Rapunzel backfired at him: It was supposed to decrease Rapunzel’s allies’ intelligence to the point of making them idiots, worthless and so weak that they could not defend themselves anymore. But not only does he lose the battle against Rapunzel, but his own invention is also used against him.
Incapable of defending himself anymore, he becomes an easy target for people with bad intentions.
