If there is one thing Billy Kaplan hates, it’s shitty hotel breakfast.
Okay, not entirely true. He does hate more things than that. Obviously. Like bigots, and genocide, and the way Tommy talks with his mouth full of microwave macaroni at three in the morning while Billy’s busy studying for exams. Y’know, the normal things. But shitty hotel breakfast? It’s definitely up there.

Billy’s voice startles him out of his racing thoughts, and he keeps his eyes trained on the mac ‘n cheese as he asks, “For what?”
Billy’s hands appear out the ends of the sleeves, his skin pale against the green-ish grey fabric as he makes a loose gesture to everything around them, then a second to himself. “Y’know.”
“I don’t, really,” he says evenly, or as evenly as he can manage. It’s not very even, or very convincing. But he’ll take what he can get. “Enlighten me?”

Sitting on the edge of the abandoned pool, spitting the water in his lungs onto the concrete, Thomas Shepherd is sure of exactly four things.
One, his name isn’t Thomas Shepherd.
Two, he isn’t Thomas Shepherd.
Three, and a bit more complicated, is that he definitely died. Not this unfamiliar, not-actually-his body. He died. Tommy. Good and truly dead, he’s pretty sure, except he clearly isn’t anymore. He would be concerned, but that kinda pales in comparison to number four, which is this:
His brother is out there, somewhere. And Tommy is going to get back to him.
Or,
unbeknownst to one Billy Kaplan/Maximoff, Tommy is looking for him, too. And he is determined to find his brother.

"You don't make my coffee dipshit." Tommy has a point. It doesn't stop Billy from imagining it, though.
"Cassie can be bribed." Not that Billy could afford her.

Six years. Not long at all, not the way Agatha sees it. Of course, to a kid—to someone young—it’s a different thing entirely. A life, even.
She hates her mind and its constant returns to this stupid arithmetic. She hates this teenager for being a teenager. She hates that if he doesn’t leave her office right this minute, she knows she’s going to say yes to him, and invent a whole new brand of pathetic middle-aged lesbian divorcée.

Billy asks his deceased mother's lawyer to help him find his long-lost brother. Arms are broken. Dubious schemes are hatched. Love returns.
