There, on his chair, sat a little plushie. A plushie that resembled himself, wearing the same Academy uniform that he was also wearing, sporting even his exact haircut, and whoever had made this had even thought of the little cut in his eyebrow. There was, however, a smirk on the face of the side-eyeing plushie.
“Viktor.”
“Yes, Jayce?”
Viktor did not look up from his work. Jayce pointed at the plushie. “What… is this?”
Finally, Viktor removed his goggles and glanced his way.
“Oh, that’s Baby Jayce.”
Jayce stared at Baby Jayce’s smug face, the little beady button eyes all-knowing and challenging.
“Why is Baby Jayce in my chair?”
“What do you mean? He likes it there.”
The look Viktor gave him was one of honest innocence, eyebrows drawn quizically. Jayce almost sputtered.
“But… it’s my chair! I need to work.”
“He’s doing science-”
“No, he’s not!”

If this weren’t such a potentially-life threatening predicament, Viktor would be indulging in some pretty inappropriate thoughts right now. As it is, though - shimmer drugged plant on the verge of attacking them - he simply files the look on Jayce’s face for later. Much later. (Preferably when he’s alone in his room. Under the covers. With the lights off.)

An experiment with the Hexcore goes awry and Jayce and Viktor find themselves in an... interesting situation. The best thing to do would be to exhaust all theories, right? Instead of dissolving with Viktor like Jayce expected, he gets sent a decade into the past when Viktor didn’t even know him yet. Of course the logical action to take is to kidnap him. Meanwhile Viktor, twenty-two years old, figures that hey, as long as he can research magic, this isn’t too bad of a predicament.
Or: Post-Season 2 Jayce and Season 1 Viktor, the grief of having lost your soulmate while having to look at his younger version who doesn’t even know you, the endless exhaustion of being a second-hand love and also science.
