Summary
Brittle and battle-worn, Cas looks at him over coffee one morning and says, "I need to go," and Dean instantly knows that he's not coming back.
He's not really sure how he knows it, but he does. It settles into the pit of his stomach, curling hot and tight like something he instinctively wants to tear out with his bare hands. He takes a breath, and it gets stuck in his throat, hitching there. It hurts, hurts, hurts when he finally exhales.
"Yeah," Dean says, "of course you do," and he nods jerkily as he looks down at his phone. He doesn't say goodbye. He doesn't look up from the screen when Cas gets up and leaves the room. He doesn't finish his coffee, or move for a long time.
By nightfall, Cas is gone.

Summary
Dean and Cas finally get that date they've been looking forward to. Things move quickly once they settle down for a late night meal at Dean's favorite diner, when an emergency call to Cas' cellphone abruptly ends their evening, leaving Dean lost in a haze of heavy emotions. Thoughts and feelings he's way better at ignoring than dealing with assault him, confirming his notions that all Doms are the same and he's really, *really* good at finding the shitty ones.

The girl waves at Castiel, her bangles tinkling cheerfully. “Did you really let Claire get her eyebrow pierced?”
Castiel blinks and glances at his daughter. He’d assume that would be obvious, since she's still wearing her current favorite—a yellow-gold sixteen-gauge curved bar, with tiny cone-shaped spikes on either end. “Yes?” he finally answers. What a lot of fuss about a tiny piercing.
“Well, so what if she wanted a tattoo?” Emma presses. “Like. Just a little one. You wouldn’t have her sneak around and go to some scratcher, would you? You’d take her yourself and stuff. Since you know people in the industry. That'd be the right thing to do, yeah?”
Castiel’s eyebrows rise. Claire smiles, smug and pleased with herself.
“Um. That’s… I don’t…” he flounders.
“What the hell. Kiddo, I told you ‘no,’ so now you’re tryin’ to get your friends’ parents to tell you 'Yes?'” a warm, deep voice growls over Castiel’s shoulder. “What’s the matter with you?”
