Sonic was gone – hopefully alive and safe back in Green Hill, but gone all the same. The Grim was an empty wasteland, and without the Paradox Prism would remain that way forever.
All Nine wanted right now was for everyone to go back to their own worlds and leave him alone to mope over everything he’d lost thanks to his own thoughtless actions.
But for some reason his two duplicates were being annoyingly insistent on talking to him.

Unable to fight back directly, Shadow has to take a different approach, and hope that Nine's plan never comes to fruition.

“That looked painful.” A voice noted, and Shadow jolted to his feet, feeling a rush of energy course through him as his eyes flicked around the room. Glowing, magenta crystal walls greeted him, spreading across the ceiling and floor. He could see no entrance or exit, yet as he turned around, Nine the fox suddenly appeared before him, arms folded behind his back as he regarded Shadow with a smirk. “Ironic, I would say.”
