Summary
Lieutenant Commander John Shepard was one of the most promising marines in Alliance history: a Star of Terra at the Siege of Elysium, a Medal of Valor during the Skyllian Blitz, an N7 designation before he even hit 25, and a hand-picked job as Executive Officer aboard the SSV Normandy, serving under an honest-to-god living legend.
That all changed on Eden Prime, when contact with a Prothean Beacon knocked him into a coma for six months. Honorably discharged and still regaining the use of his legs, every marine that knew Shepard can only look at him with pity.
But Shepard doesn't want people's pity. He wants someone to explain to him why he can see the future.
And he wants to know why that future includes a Spectre and a Councilor unleashing something horrifying on the galaxy.

Summary
Cerberus has spent billions of credits trying to bring Commander Shepard back from the dead, and despite the odds, it seems to be working. Then a saboteur makes his move and Shepard's resurrection takes a horrific turn, leaving the Alliance, her old team, and Cerberus scrambling to control the situation...all while the Collectors begin their harvest of humanity.
An AU "What If?" story where the Shepard that wakes up on Lazarus Station isn't the same person that died over Alchera. Things fly off the rails almost immediately, plans and contingencies are dead on arrival, and her former friends--along with the people she eventually would have called her allies--struggle to stay afloat.
After all, how are you supposed to face your demons when the Paragon of Humanity has become one herself?
